BADASSBOX 4 YAMAHA EBIKE TUNING CHIP

  • Displays half your actual speed
  • Permanent assistance up to 45 km/h
  • Compatible with all Yamaha engines
  • Easy to install and remove (no tools required)

How it works

The badass kit for Yamaha engines is an external module that is placed on the frame of the bike. The module communicates remotely with your Yamaha engine using an AAA battery (no wiring required). Once installed you can reach an approximate speed of 45 km/h.

Description

In 2018, the BadassBox brand of unblocking kits unveiled a device designed to equip Yamaha engines. The BadassBox 4 for Yamaha is an electronic brain enclosed in a waterproof case with a patented spring lock that allows it to be simply and safely attached to the speed sensor of the electric bicycle. There is no need to open the engine compartment or remove the pedals to access it.

The BadassBox 4 has no power cable, as it has its own AAA battery with a range of one year or 7000 km. Its patented field amplification technology allows the release kit to operate without contact and therefore without connection to the motor. The brain picks up the data, removes the speed limiter from the Yamaha engines and displays the actual values on the console screen.

The BadassBox 4 for Yamaha underwent a facelift that made it lose weight and significantly reduced its volume. The box is now so small that it goes completely unnoticed. The reliability of BadassBox 4 makes it a reliable release kit for long and satisfactory use and for covering long distances.

Step by step installation

  1. Place the AAA battery in your Yamaha engine module.
  2. Install the kit on the existing speed sensor.
  3. Adjust the magnet so that the badassbox can recover your speed.
  4. That’s it, you can drive with assistance up to 45 km/h.
  5. To recover your original bike, simply remove the badassbox module.

How it works

The Yamaha 2019 Speedbox kit is activated by pressing the button on the lights of the electric bicycle. By pressing for 2 seconds, the value 9.9 is displayed on the dashboard. Your electric bicycle is then unlocked. If you wish to deactivate the module, simply press the light button again (your screen will then display 2.5).

Description

The SpeedBox 2 for Yamaha 2019 is a small, very discreet device that can be connected to the Yamaha engine and the console via cables. It is therefore placed directly in the engine compartment after opening the plastic cover. Installation of the module is very simple and intuitive. It can be removed at any time without any risk to the electric bicycle.

The kit is activated using the light button and as soon as it is activated the speed limiter is deactivated. In power-assisted or non-power-assisted mode, the e-bike with a Yamaha engine can now exceed the 25 km/h limit. Theoretically, it is possible to reach 99 km/h depending on the conditions of use and the battery. However, the speed actually reached without danger to the user is between 40 km/h and 60 km/h.

Définition of tuning

Unbridle is the operation of your Yamaha electric bicycle motor beyond the 25 km/h speed limit. With this process, your motor will continue to operate beyond this speed. To do this, you must modify your bike. There are several ways to do this, you can tinker with the bike yourself or use a deblocking kit if you have a central motor (pedelec type).

We much prefer the latter when possible because the former often has undesirable consequences.

Advantage compared to manual tuning

Manual release is not always possible. If ever there is a way to tinker with the Yamaha motor of your electric bicycle, it is not without risk. Modifying the original structure of the bike can damage it. By using a professional kit, you are opting for a technically reliable and durable system.

Electrix bike Yamaha motors

PW-X

The PW-X is a drive unit perfectly suited for sporty, even aggressive driving. This engine is particularly suitable for sports enthusiasts looking for thrills and who love wide open spaces and mountainous terrain. With its 5th Extra Power assistance mode, it is able to provide the power you need to climb steep slopes and overcome all obstacles on your route.

Thanks to a more compact design and more powerful technologies, Yamaha PW-X is lighter and more responsive. It is capable of the best performance at very high speeds. The hollow motor shaft is specific to this model, making it 380 grams lighter. The PW-X is very manoeuvrable thanks to an ultra-fast engine response speed. At the slightest change of terrain or environment, the change of assistance mode is immediate as soon as the rider presses the button on the dashboard.

Professional cyclists have nothing to fear with the PW-X, as this engine is reliable enough to ride long distances, negotiate tight corners, endure high speeds and overcome various difficulties. As it is under heavy load, Yamaha has developed a more efficient cooling system.

PW-SE

The PW-SE is a series that perfectly combines the power of the Yamaha engine and the fluidity of the electric power assist. By equipping your bike with this 250W motor, you benefit from a very natural pedalling assistance, increasing your pleasure tenfold and providing you with a unique experience. The stability of the race is therefore assured, allowing the cyclist to concentrate more on the road.

With the PW-SE, the power of the assistance is constant when starting up and while pedalling, making it possible to carry out different types of journeys: from daily trips in town to more demanding sporting activities. The engine system is equipped with 3 sensors that allow data to be retrieved on pedalling power, bike speed and the number of revolutions related to pedalling. With this data, the system is able to instantly propose a suitable assistance mode. All that remains is for the cyclist to carry out the proposal. This ultra-compact motor can be unleashed. Regardless of the assistance mode (ECO+, ECO, STD and HIGH), the maximum cadence is 110 revolutions per minute. However, you can be sure of a high degree of bike stability thanks to the central positioning of the motor.

PW-TE

The PW-TE appeals to city-dwellers with its driving comfort. This 3rd generation power unit of the 3rd generation of the
Yamaha is equipped with the latest technology. The Quand Sensor System allows the cyclist to be assisted by 4 sensors that will analyse his driving environment. Based on this data, the on-board computer connected to the engine will automatically select the appropriate assistance mode.

This intelligent system allows the power and performance of the PW-TE engine to be exploited to the full. In other words, the system allows you to change modes at the right time, while driving and without human intervention. Whether at start-up, on flat ground or on a slope, the bike’s behaviour adapts as it goes along. Technically, it is limited to 25 km/h, but with an adapted release kit, it can become an interesting solution for city e-bikes. It is therefore the type of hybrid engine to be preferred for recreational outings. This intelligent assistance is sufficient to meet the primary needs of ordinary cyclists. Unblocking on this engine is just one option that allows people in a hurry to ride a little faster in special circumstances.

Ebike Yamaha displays

Display A

This dashboard surprises with its versatility and simplicity. It owes its name to its A-shape, but also because it offers a 1.7-inch liquid crystal display that is very accessible and easy to use. This dashboard is equally suited to city driving as it is to rough terrain.

Its display continuously shows speed, battery level and assistance mode. A simple press on the side buttons allows you to change modes in an instant, which is a real asset when pedalling, especially when facing difficulties such as uphill.

Display C

The on-board computer C is the ideal console for an intelligent engine like PW-TE. The 2.8-inch screen offers a colour display and remote control for easy operation.

This is the ideal combination for the uninitiated or people who do not want to be bothered with the technical details of the e-bike and who want to enjoy a comfortable ride.

The change of assistance mode is automatic according to the environmental and driving data collected by the sensors. The C-Console provides clear information and can integrate mobile applications to complement its functionality in connected mode.

Display X

Ergonomic and compact, the X console is enclosed in a box that ensures its safety in all circumstances, whatever the type of riding of the electric bicycle. It is strategically positioned on the handlebars so that all buttons are within reach of the thumb.

Its display on a 1.8-inch LCD screen with LED light makes it possible to permanently activate functions and customise its interface. It can be connected via Bluetooth and has a USB power cable. All these features indicate that the X console is really recommended on a VAE equipped with a powerful and aggressive sports engine such as PW-X.

Ebike Yamaha batteries

On the frame

The Yamaha frame battery comes in two versions: 400 Wh and 500 Wh. The difference in weight is very slight and the design is almost identical.

However, this version hooks directly onto the frame using a specially developed and perfectly secure fixing.

On luggage rack

The rear rack of the electric bikes is the ideal place for this very impressive Yamaha battery in terms of volume. This 36V battery also offers two capacities (400 Wh and 500 Wh).

It is perfect for those who don’t have a suitable place on the bike frame, but want good access to the charger cable.

Emplacements multiples

With a capacity of 600Wh, Yamaha’s 36V Lithium-ion battery can be fully charged in just 5 hours.

FAQ

Is my bike still under warranty?

If you modify your electric bicycle by installing a Yamaha unlocking kit, the warranty on your bike is automatically voided. In principle, if you remove the kit, there is no longer any trace of the unlocking, however, we cannot guarantee that a professional cannot detect the previous presence of a kit.

Does the kit damage my Yamaha engine?

The kit does not damage your engine, it simply allows you to release the nominal power of the engine beyond the 25 km/h allowed. The installation of an electronic module will not increase engine power.

What is the impact on the range of my electric bicycle?

The battery capacity remains unchanged. If you use your engine more often (because from now on your engine will continue to run beyond 25 km/h), then your Yamaha battery will discharge more quickly.

How can I be sure that this Yamaha kit is compatible with my electric bicycle?

  1. Hello there I’ve been using a speedbox 2 on my haibike hardseven 7 pw series st yamaha engine and all works as it should then it stops working I’ve had a mechanic look at it before the problem started and he said it looks fine then all of a sudden it stops working it’s driving me mad can you help please

  2. 2019+ models check if the device which sucks small electrical current is connected between the motor and battery.
There is no problem in the beginning, but after some time there appear frequent errors (typically Er 71) and at the end the motor is disconnected totaly (not possible to switch it on). Removing of such device helps to solve this problems immediately.
I use GPS modul for protecting my ebike which works the same way as the tuning chips and Yamaha approach caused the nighmare to me (and the producer of those GPS protective devices too).
He invented different type of his device and it works at the end.
Stupid request to not to help to the biker above 25 km/h limits the start-up companies, who wants to help the owners protect their ebikes. YAMAHA change your attitude please!
