SpeedBox vs BadassBox FAQ

Which kit shows real speed on the display — SpeedBox or BadassBox?
SpeedBox shows real speed on the bike's console. BadassBox shows half the real speed on the console (because it halves the wheel sensor frequency). However, the Boost Buddy app (iOS/Android) displays real GPS speed. For accurate display on the bike console, choose SpeedBox.
Can I switch between normal and tuning mode with both kits?
Yes, both allow switching. SpeedBox activates via the Walk Assist button (2-second hold) — or via the app on B.Tuning versions. BadassBox activates via the Boost Buddy app. Both are switchable at any time.
Which kit is better for a Shimano EP801?
BadassBox 4 is the simplest solution for EP801 — external, no motor contact, no E299 risk. SpeedBox 1.3 is NOT compatible with EP801 (E299 permanent lock risk). For an internal kit on EP801, use PearTune MSO 3.0 instead.
Is the SpeedBox detected at a service visit?
SpeedBox potentially leaves traces in firmware logs. Remove it before any dealer visit. BadassBox leaves zero electronic traces — remove it in 10 seconds before dropping the bike off.
Does BadassBox work in rain and mud?
The BadassBox 4 is resistant to standard use. The BadassBox 5 is rated IP67 (fully waterproof). In prolonged immersion or extreme mud conditions, the BadassBox 4's sealed case provides adequate protection. For intensive MTB use in wet conditions, an internal kit (SpeedBox) has the advantage of being inside the sealed motor.
