Brose becomes QORE Drive³: what changes (and what does not)

Yamaha completed its acquisition of the Brose e-bike division on 1 August 2025. The motor range is now sold under the QORE Drive³ brand within the Yamaha ecosystem. The operational base remains in Berlin, the engineering teams are unchanged, and the motors use the same hardware.

What stays the same: technical specifications (90–95 Nm, up to 600 W, ~2.9 kg), the characteristic belt-drive transmission, the very quiet acoustic signature, and compatibility with all existing tuning kits. Bikes delivered with the QORE Drive³ badge use the same hardware as previous Brose generations. Availability of new tuning kits may be limited as manufacturers validate against the latest Drive³ variants — check each kit's compatibility page before ordering.

Brose / QORE Drive³ motor range

Brose (a German group founded in 1908) is one of the quieter players in the e-bike market but equips premium brands. The Drive range spans six variants by intended use.

Which bikes use Brose / QORE Drive³ motors?

Key brands using Brose motorisation include: Specialized Turbo Levo SL (the lightweight full-suspension MTB version), select Focus models, and Riese & Müller premium cargo and commuter bikes. Older models from Bulls, Rotwild, and Devinci also used Brose motors. Always confirm the exact motor variant from the label on the motor casing before ordering a kit.

Kit details

SpeedBox 3.0 — the reference choice

SpeedBox 3.0 displays real speed on the console and activates the Walk Assist function beyond the legal limit. Installation takes 30–45 minutes. Compatible with Drive C, T, TF, S, and S-Mag. Activation via a dedicated button. Lifetime warranty on purchases via the official store.

PearTune MSO 4.0 — lowest detection risk

PearTune MSO 4.0 is the Brose kit offering the highest assisted speed ceiling available. The Chip Lock feature makes detection during dealer diagnostics virtually undetectable. Compatible with Drive C, T, TF, S, and S-Mag.

SpeedFun Furious Evo — smooth transition

The SpeedFun uses a progressive signal-division approach: beyond a set threshold it gradually reduces the speed signal rather than cutting it abruptly, which produces a smoother power taper and is less conspicuous in use. Compatible with Drive C, T, TF, and S.

Polini Hi-Speed — important incompatibility warning

An affordable entry-level option for Drive C, T, and TF. Do not install on Drive S or S-Mag — the architecture of these high-torque motors causes system errors and random cut-outs with the Polini. Detection risk is also higher than SpeedBox or PearTune. Not recommended for Drive 3 Peak.

BadassBox 4 — compatible with all Brose / QORE Drive³

The only tuning solution confirmed compatible with the full Brose range, including the Drive 3 Peak / QORE Drive³. External magnetic installation, no motor opening, no tools, around 15 minutes. No electronic contact means zero traces in the motor logs. The console shows half of real speed; the Boost Buddy app displays the actual figure.

Legal notice — UK

UK law (Highway Act 1988 / EAPC regulations) limits electrically assisted pedal cycles to 15.5 mph on public roads. Tuning kits that remove this limit are off-road use only— private land with the landowner's permission. Never ride a tuned ebike on a public road, pavement, or cycle path.

Brose / QORE Drive³ tuning FAQ

Has Brose disappeared? What is QORE Drive³?
No, Brose has not disappeared. Yamaha announced the acquisition of Brose's e-bike division in early 2025, effective 1 August 2025. The motor range is now marketed under the QORE Drive³ brand within the Yamaha ecosystem. The operational base remains in Berlin, the engineering teams are unchanged, and the technical specifications (90–95 Nm, up to 600 W, ~2.9 kg, belt drive) have not changed.
Do tuning kits still work on QORE Drive³ motors?
Yes. The Brose → QORE Drive³ rebrand is a commercial operation and does not alter the motor's electronic architecture. SpeedBox 3.0, PearTune MSO 4.0, SpeedFun Furious Evo, and BadassBox 4 remain compatible with existing Brose/QORE hardware. New bikes shipped with the QORE Drive³ badge use the same underlying hardware as previous Brose generations.
Is the Polini Hi-Speed compatible with the Brose Drive S or S-Mag?
No. The Polini Hi-Speed is incompatible with the Brose Drive S and Drive S-Mag. These high-performance motors (90 Nm) have an internal architecture that prevents the Polini from functioning correctly, causing system errors and random cut-outs. For Drive S and S-Mag, use SpeedBox 3.0, PearTune MSO 4.0, or BadassBox 4.
Which bikes use Brose / QORE Drive³ motors?
Brose motors are found in: Specialized Turbo Levo SL (lightweight version), some Focus models, Riese & Müller premium bikes, and selected older models from Bulls, Rotwild, and Devinci. Always check the motor casing label (Drive C, T, S, S-Mag…) before ordering a kit.
What is the Brose Drive 3 Peak (2025 / QORE Drive³)?
The Drive 3 Peak is the latest generation (2025), running on 48V with 95 Nm of torque. It is more compact and lighter than previous generations. Compatibility with existing kits is still being validated — BadassBox 4 is currently the safest option for this newer motor, as it requires no electronic contact with the motor.
Is Brose ebike tuning legal in the UK?
No, not on public roads. UK law (Highway Act 1988 / EAPC regulations) limits electrically assisted pedal cycles to 15.5 mph (25 km/h) on public roads. Fitting a tuning kit that removes this limit is off-road use only. Use only on private land with the landowner's permission. Never ride a tuned ebike on a public road or cycle path.
