DJI Avinox eBike Tuning Chip — PearTune MSO for M1/M2 Motors

DJI entered the eBike motor market in July 2024 with the Avinox Drive System. In under two years, over 60 brands have adopted it. PearTune MSO 5.0 RC is the only confirmed hardware tuning kit for the M1/M2 as of mid-2025 — the DJI Avinox runs a proprietary closed protocol. Private off-road use only.

DJI Avinox motors — M1, M2, and M2S specs

DJI launched three motor variants under the Avinox platform. All share the same mounting standard and battery ecosystem, making them forward and backward compatible with Avinox accessories.

Why is DJI Avinox tuning more limited than Bosch?

The DJI Avinox motor runs a proprietary closed protocol — unlike Bosch, Shimano or Yamaha motors, whose communication layers have been mapped extensively by tuning kit manufacturers. Reverse-engineering a closed protocol takes considerably more time and resources.

This is why, despite the Avinox platform launching in mid-2024 and rapidly gaining over 60 OEM brand adopters, only one kit — PearTune MSO 5.0 RC — has achieved confirmed compatibility as of mid-2025. PearTune released this version as a Release Candidate specifically because the DJI protocol may still evolve with OTA firmware updates.

PearTune MSO 5.0 RC — the only confirmed DJI Avinox kit

PearTune MSO 5.0 RC supports DJI Avinox M1 and M2 motors (2024 onwards). Installation is internal (wired), following the same approach as other PearTune variants: the kit intercepts the speed signal between the sensor and the motor controller.

RC status — what it means
Release Candidate means the kit is functional and shipped but still in active monitoring. PearTune updates firmware via their app if DJI pushes a protocol change. If you have an Avinox bike, do not accept OTA updates from the Avinox Ride app while the kit is installed.
Detection behaviour
No permanent lock equivalent to Bosch error 0x524001 has been documented on DJI Avinox to date. Detection risk is rated Very Low — the Avinox anti-tamper logic appears less aggressive than Bosch Smart System BES3.
Speed display
Real speed is shown on the Avinox head unit. The kit does not require the Avinox Ride smartphone app to function, though the app may show inconsistent data — keep the app closed during rides.
Chip Lock included
PearTune MSO includes Chip Lock anti-detection technology across all variants. This is particularly relevant for DJI Avinox given the motor's deep integration with the Avinox Ride connected app ecosystem.

DJI Avinox connected ecosystem — what to watch with a kit installed

  • OTA firmware updates: the Avinox Ride app prompts for updates regularly. Decline all OTA updates when a tuning kit is installed — firmware changes can alter detection behaviour.
  • ANT+ / Bluetooth 5.1: the motor broadcasts speed and cadence data. Third-party head units (Garmin, Wahoo) may display real speed independently of the kit.
  • GPS and anti-theft: the Avinox head unit has embedded GPS and Apple Find My. These features remain active regardless of the tuning kit.
  • Riding modes: Eco, Trail, Turbo, Auto, Boost and Off are all supported with the kit installed. Boost mode (30–60s burst) functions normally.

DJI Avinox vs Bosch CX Gen5 — tuning perspective

Bottom line: the DJI Avinox has significantly fewer tuning options than Bosch today — a direct consequence of its proprietary closed protocol. If kit choice and installer availability matter to you, Bosch remains the more mature ecosystem. If you already own an Avinox bike, PearTune MSO 5.0 RC is the only confirmed route.

DJI Avinox tuning FAQ

Can the DJI Avinox motor be tuned?
Yes. PearTune MSO 5.0 RC (Release Candidate) is the only confirmed hardware tuning kit compatible with the DJI Avinox M1 and M2 motors as of mid-2025. The DJI Avinox uses a proprietary closed protocol — no other kit has confirmed compatibility at this time. The situation may evolve as the platform matures.
What is the detection risk on DJI Avinox?
Detection behaviour on DJI Avinox is less documented than on Bosch Smart System. No permanent lock equivalent to Bosch error 0x524001 has been reported in the community to date. However, the motor is fully connected via the Avinox Ride app with OTA update capability — avoid accepting firmware updates when a kit is installed, as updates can modify detection algorithms.
Which bikes use the DJI Avinox motor?
More than 60 OEM brands use the Avinox in 2026. Key names include Amflow (DJI's own brand), Moustache, BH Bikes, Macina, Canyon, Pivot, Mondraker, Commencal, Forbidden, Orange Bikes, Whyte, YT Industries, Rotwild, Raymon, Megamo, and Atherton Bikes. The motor is positioned primarily on the eMTB trail/enduro segment.
What is the difference between the M1, M2, and M2S?
The M1 (launched July 2024) delivers 95 Nm continuous torque and peaks at 120 Nm in Boost mode, weighing 2.52 kg. The M2 (2026) raises continuous torque to 105 Nm. The M2S (2026 flagship) reaches 150 Nm in short Boost bursts (30–60 seconds) with a peak output of 1,500 W, at just 2.59 kg — the best power density in the segment. All three share the same mounting standard and are accessory-compatible.
Does tuning void the warranty on a DJI Avinox bike?
Yes. Installing any hardware tuning kit on an Avinox motor will void the manufacturer warranty. The motor logs are accessible to DJI-authorised service centres. As with all tuning kits, this is for private off-road use only.
Will other tuning kits support DJI Avinox in the future?
Possibly. The DJI Avinox uses a proprietary closed communication protocol, which makes it more challenging to develop compatible hardware than with open-protocol motors. PearTune MSO 5.0 RC is the first to achieve confirmed compatibility. Other manufacturers may follow as the platform grows beyond 60 OEM brands.
